Barataria Preserve
Meet your airboat captain and settle into your seat on the 16-passenger vessel, then prepare for a wild ride into the swamp.

Powered by a 454 Chevy engine and propelled by huge fans, the airboat travels at speeds up to 25 miles per hour (40 kph). The captain performs exhilarating high-speed maneuvers, cruises at gentle speeds, and makes plenty of photo stops while narrating on the wildlife and local flora. Alligator sightings are common in these waters, but your guide is trained to ensure safety at all times during this family-friendly outing. After your tour concludes, relax with transport back to your hotel in New Orleans.

We lucked out picking this tour company. Transportation was a breeze from our air bnb which some of the other tours didn’t offer. Captain Jason was fantastic and showed us many unique spots. I had so much fun on the airboat and will never forget it. Highly recommend!

This tour is amazing. The guide, Jason, great at answering our questions and pointing out all of the unique animals and plants. The swamp is exceptionally beautiful with the hanging moss. It was a fantastic experience and well worth it if you want to learn more about the area.

This was a great tour, just what we were expecting. Some tips for future travelers:
- best to go on a sunny warm day (we toured in Dec & got lucky with sunshine) The big gators hibernate in cold weather.
- the air boat can get loud at fast speeds, but headphones are provided
- it’s called a Swamp Tour, not an alligator tour so there’s a chance you won’t see any gators depending on the day
-our tour guide was great- brought his own pet alligator from home so we could see one up close in our boat!
- in winter, it can get cool on the water. They provide blankets for a $10 charge
-it’s about a 20 minute ride from downtown New Orleans to the swamp. But we were first to get on the shuttle bus & last to get off so it lengthened our trip picking up other tourists on a bumpy bus ride!
